The Forgotten Vale is a Minecraft adventure map built by Its Build Time for the Xbox 360 edition of Minecraft in early 2014. Let’s Plays of the map were uploaded to the stampylonghead channel between the 27th of June and 5th of August 2014, and to the iBallisticSquid channel between the 1st of July and the 5th of August 2014 both in twelve roughly equivalent episodes. The series saw Stampy and Squid adventure through various chapters to find ‘atherium shards’, or Eyes of Ender, to place in the citadel, following which they had to slay the Ender Dragon.

Overview[]

The Forgotten Vale adventure map was created by Its Build Time, with support from the lead project directors Waldo, Defdreadlock, Umop Crybaby, Poncho, and Eon. Special thanks were also given to Flrt Color, Raptorman 057, Akinproduct1, MrStampyCat57, hopper24086, Outlaws Legnd, ItsGanga, KingporkNchop5, and Iv Torq vI, with extra special thanks given to OpryzeLP for the use of his mod tool. The map released on the 20th of January, 2014, and was begun by Stampy and Squid approximately six months later.

Plot[]

Stampy and Squid are adventurers on a quest to find ‘atherium shards’ to unlock the secret in the citadel. Activating five pillars to open the door to the citadel, they make their way inside to discover that they need to brew fire resistance potions to pass through a wall of fire on their way to the Library, where the first shard resides. The Library proves a long and difficult gauntlet of fighting, involving some disastrous lava parkour, but the pair manage to make it in the end to find their first shard, along with instructions to find Neptune’s Helmet which will allow them to reach the second shard.

Travelling to an island across the ocean, they recover Neptune’s Helmet from a cave and set out to find the broken stair, ascending up the side of a mountain to find the location of the underwater city. Neptune’s Helmet allows Stampy and Squid to breathe underwater, and they find music discs to unlock the door to the next atherium shard. The third shard is hidden in the abandoned mines; making their way to these mines, the two battle to destroy a spider’s nest and manage to find it hidden away, along with instructions to travel to another island.

The second island yields a broken disc and the location of a second set of broken stairs; climbing up these, Stampy and Squid are told the location of a cave containing the second broken disc. Plunging into it, they retrieve the second disc and then travel to a mountain, where they use the discs to unlock a temple which, after a long battle with a chamber of mobs, allows them to find the final shard. Returning to the citadel, Stampy and Squid use the shards to open a portal to the end, before engaging in a final battle with the Ender Dragon and completing the map, rewarded for their troubles with riches and cake.

Trivia []

  • The name of the map is a possible reference to a location called the Forgotten Vale in the DLC Dawnguard for the video game The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which released two years earlier. The snowy aesthetic of the map would appear to support this notion.
  • This adventure map series features two moments – one from episode eight and one from episode nine - which made it into Stampy’s Top 10 Adventure Map Moments. It was the only map to have two such moments in that video.
  • The map is no longer downloadable due to an update that broke it. Despite Its Build Time’s promise, the map has not since been fixed.
